When I decided to write a musical I decided that I was going to write the deepest story I could possibly tell. This quickly narrowed my options, bringing me to the center of my heart and to the only story I could possibly tell – the story of my life.
The very first thing that I had to understand is something I want you to pass along to you:
YOU ARE THE HERO IN THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE
This is a deeply empowering and transformative perspective – seeing yourself as the Hero in your own story. Most of us don’t identify ourselves or see ourselves as Heros. Yet every life is called to a journey of some sort; a journey with many tests and obstacles to overcome. You have the power inside of you to face these tests and rise above them to seize your treasure. No one said it was going to be easy.
So whether or not you ever write a story or musical about your life, take a second now to watch this funny video I made years ago. I think everyone should have the opportunity to step back and see their life as a story…to see their life as a Hero’s Journey.
